Two places come to mind when I watch this. Calgary, Alberta and Kelowna, British Columbia. Except that the people in this video are obviously rocket scientists compared to the drivers in either town. There's a big difference between driving fast, and just being unsafe at any speed.
miter- in answer to your question. i was taking a break. that and i've been real busy last few days.. thursday and friday, the logging company i work with had a few good days. after that, i spent the weekend on a camping trip..that was fun, saw this HUGE porcupine, shame i didn't have my gun with me..always wondered what the little blighters'd taste like. anyway, im back for now, so for those of you that missed me, do not fear, for i did not leave. ^.^
Every so often, I'll come across something that infuriates me, that had NOTHING to do with the current video clip (gee----surprise-surprise). Guess what? This is one of those times. Anyone out there real good at math? Okay...please do the math here, at tell me why I'm real fucking pissed:
Afghanistan:
Current American troop strength: approx. 15,000
Current American K.I.A.: 517
Current British troop strength: approx. 7,800
Current British K.I.A.: 100
Current Canadian troop strength: 2,500
Current Canadian K.I.A.: 85
Besides the sick feeling I get over ANY NATO Alliance soldier "buying it" over there.......can anyone else see something wrong with this picture, or these numbers?
C - I guess it depends on who is classified in the counting as troops, and who constitutes a KIA. Perhaps the numbers are skewed due to the mercenary being counted as troops, but not as a KIA?
Just an idea, if not then there is something unfair going on here.
aside from the fact that you don't list the other combat troops from German, Turks, and French Med units, etc, you must be looking at the % killed?
The Canadian and Brits are on duty in area that are getting more and more bombings.
It would help to end the crap in Iraq and move those troops in Afgan, maybe the next Pres will do that.
By the way, how are ya C?
The numbers are based on actual TROOP deaths due to combat reasons, and not upon so-called "contractors" (i.e. mercenaries), or "civilian" casualties.
Gym:
I didn't include those other nations for two reasons: the three nations listed above have the most significant combat presence in Afghanistan, and are deployed in the most hostile regions in the country, whereas the other Alliance members are safely tucked away in the more-or-less "safe zones"; plus, most of those other NATO members have troops there who are not in an active combat role, and instead are involved mainly in infrastructure renewal, and also having deaths (although still a tragic loss) that are "negligable" in relation to any any actual combat roles they perform.
Doing pretty good, Amigo! (well, besides the depressing shit above).
Good to see you're still around and active, Old Timer!
Look at the deaths per 1000 troops ratio it seems it might be something to do with the taskings given to the various forces? The Canucks and US forces are both the same at 34 deaths per thousand
The Brits have a ratio of 12 deaths per 1000 troops and my understanding is they have quite a few sneaky beaky operators there who perhaps get killed less often?
I know the US and Canadian forces also have special forces teams there too but I'd assume the fact that the brits have years of active experience against guerillas in a variety of environments (Malaysia, Northern Ireland, various African countries) maybe means they fare a little better in that environment?
That or they're not pulling their weight. Which I doubt would be the case
Well it's the State bird (black fly) day here in NH, they fly up to you and check your dog-tags for blood type, see if they like you, than bring you near death while they get fat on your blood.
