Why You Should Invest In High-Quality Clothing

Blog· Lifestyle

13 Mar

You can trace history through fashion. Even Fashion Week itself is still a relatively new concept. Just a few decades ago clothes were passed down through families, and every effort was made to mend any rips and tears. Today, clothing is almost disposable. In fact, it is made to be disposable. These garments are of the moment and made so cheaply that attempting to keep them beyond the season is almost futile. Trends themselves change so often and so rapidly that it is almost a race to keep up. Fashion is running at a sprint, and for the truly fashionable citizen, it’s time to slow down.

Being more conscious about what you buy is the best way to shop. Slow down your consumption and forget about the of-the-moment trends that become uncool the second the next season hits. It’s time to break up with cheap, disposable fashion and opt for something lasting. It’s time to invest in high-quality clothing.

It’s estimated that we only wear an approximate 20% of our wardrobes on average. That extra 80% is more than likely items we bought because they were cheap or items that are no longer in style, which we feel the need to keep around simply because we purchased them. The goal with slowing down your wardrobe is to forget about keeping up with trends and instead on developing your own personal look. When you create your own sense of style, you want that style to endure, which is where high-quality pieces come in.

There are several benefits to owning high-quality clothing. Firstly, they are made of better and longer-lasting materials. These materials naturally tend to look better on and hold up to time than their counterparts. High-quality clothing also has the habit of fitting better to your frame, allowing you to wear more flattering pieces that let you shine, rather than the other way around. For the truly environmentally conscious, there are also sustainable and organic options which ensure a better future and life for those at every stage of the supply chain.

Investing in high-quality pieces also extends to your accessories. For those with skin allergies, it’s time to forget torturing yourself with statement jewellery and to instead opt for hypoallergenic earrings like those available at blomdahlusa.com. Comfort and style are not the antithesis of each other – you just have to be willing to pay a higher price point.

Now, paying more for each piece might be daunting, but consider your consumption habits. Buying many pieces that you won’t wear isn’t saving money, it’s wasting it. It’s wasting it for pieces that won’t last you three years, much less longer. Higher quality pieces don’t have to mean you spend more on clothing, just that you need to think more before each purchase. Not only will this improve the overall quality of your wardrobe, but it will also mean you wear more of what you actually own. Every fashionista should be critical before they buy, because you aren’t buying for the trend, you are buying for your wardrobe. Build up your own unique style, and you will be fashionable for years to come.
