3 Tips For Finding Success At A Farmers Market

Business

14 Sep

If you have a business that you think could find success at a farmers market, be it selling produce or some other kind of homemade goods, it’s important to have a plan in place for how you’ll entice customers to you and encourage a larger number of sales.

Depending on the type of product or service you’re selling, the type of farmers market that you’re a part of, and the type of customers that visit that farmers market, your strategy for success will likely vary. But to help give you a good jumping off point, here are three tips for finding success at a farmers market.

Work On Your Display

Aside from what you’ll be selling at the farmers market, arguably the most important thing you should prepare for is to have a beautiful display that will encourage people to stop at your booth.

When setting up your booth, Annie Pilon, a contributor to Small Business Trends, advises that you keep your best looking items up front and center. If you’re selling produce, you’ll want to put the most beautiful pieces as they’re the most visible. And if you’re selling other products, try to put ones that you think will appeal to the largest number of people in the most visible positions. This can help you catch the eye of people who pass by your booth and make them want to come and see what you’re got going on.

Give More To Get More

Working at a farmers market is different from selling your items at other places. In this more personal atmosphere, you should try to think about how you can give more to potential customers in order to get more from them.

To do this, Serenity Gibbons, a contributor to Business2Community.com, shares that you should give out some kind of sample of your product or service. Keep in mind, however, that if you’re doing this, you’ll want to ensure that you give out the best sample of your product. This means that if you’re selling something that’s best served cold, you’ll have to have a water chiller to help you keep that product cold. Or if you’re selling something fresh and warm, that you’re able to keep it that way.

Consider A Partnership

Sometimes, two vendors working together can accomplish much more than one vendor working on their own. Knowing this, Erin Schoenberg, a contributor to DailyJournalOnline.com, suggests that you create a partnership with other vendors that offer complementary products or services to you. By working together and encouraging people to visit your partner after visiting you, and vice versa, you could make even more sales.

If you’re wanting to find more success as a vendor at a farmers market, consider using the business tips mentioned above to help you accomplish this.
