4 Investments in Your Landscaping Business that Pay Off

Business

8 Dec

Landscaping and yard care is an excellent business, especially if you target an affluent neighborhood that has large properties. There are tons of people who would rather pay someone to mow their lawn and pull their weeds than do these tasks themselves. You’ll need to buy the basics, like a lawnmower, weedwhacker, blower, and edger to get started, but there are many others things that will help your landscaping business become more successful. Here are four investments that will pay off in the long run.

Large Trailer for Hauling Equipment

A large trailer is beneficial to your landscaping business because it enables you to bring all your equipment to the job site at once. After all, there’s only so much you can put in the back of a pickup truck. Just make sure your truck has the hauling capacity necessary for the trailer you choose and that the trailer has a ramp to make getting your equipment in and out easier. You’ll also need to rent a garage space to store your trailer if you don’t have a place for it on your own property.

Ride-On Lawnmower for Large Properties

A regular push lawnmower works for most landscaping jobs, but a ride-on lawnmower will save you a lot of time if you have to mow a large property. You’ll still need a small push lawnmower for the parking strip and other small areas of grass, but a ride-on lawnmower goes faster and covers a larger area at one time. Using a ride-on lawnmower will also help you conserve energy so that you can work faster, not harder.

Backhoe or Wheel Loader for Landscaping Jobs

If you didn’t work in landscaping, you’d be surprised at how many different types of shovels there are. However, none of them can get a digging job done as well and as fast as a backhoe or wheel loader. Investing in these pieces of heavy machinery can help you get your work done faster and with less physical effort. You can also rent a backhoe or wheel loader if you don’t have the money to buy one out right. There are different sizes for different types of jobs, so sometimes renting is the best option.

Personal Protective Equipment for Safety

It’s tempting to wear shorts, sandals, and other comfortable equipment when you’re working out in the heat, but you really shouldn’t. You can’t work if you get an injury, so it’s a good idea to invest in protective clothing to help you stay safe while you work. You should wear thick gloves to protect your hands from blisters; supportive shoes to avoid ankle and foot injuries; and thick pants to protect your legs from flying debris from lawnmowers, blowers, and other landscaping equipment. If you employ other people, you should make sure they wear the proper personal protective equipment, too.

If you want your landscaping business to grow and be successful, you need to invest in it. This means buying better equipment to help you be more efficient and safe. Marketing and employee training are also important investments, but better equipment should be one of your top priorities.
