Millennials are the face of the future, especially in relation to business. By 2020, it’s predicted that there are going to be over 46% millennials in the labour market. That’s why it’s time for you to embrace them and make them feel like they are happy to keep working for you. Millennials are extremely optimistic and are full of bright, new ideas. The only problem is that they do not have much of a voice when it comes to their work. That’s why you can give them that voice. Here is everything you need to know about how to inspire them.
Provide support and training
Remember, the majority of millennials that are going to be joining your business have probably just come out of college or university. That’s why it’s up to you to provide the training and support they need to flourish in their position. Everyone knows that it’s difficult to jump from education into the world of work. That’s why you’re going to need to be patient with them and allow them to get adjusted to their new working environment. Do not be angry or impatient with them. Instead, provide them with the correct tools and training to get used to their new job title.
Flexible Hours
Unlike other generations, a lot of Millennial workers tend to focus on life outside of the office more than just “living to work.” You need to respect this and realise that they are still young and want to learn more about the world, in other words, allowing them to have more valuable life experiences. That’s why you should consider giving them a flexible working timetable. This could include allowing them to work from home or allowing them to choose when they come into the office. Just make sure to monitor their work if you allow this.
Nice environments
Any employee assistance firms, such as Lifeworks, will recommend that having a good working attitude depends on the work place itself. If you want to inspire your new workers then you need to have them in a nice place to work. Don’t just put them in cubicles. Consider an open-planned office that can get a lot of sunlight, has nice seating arrangements and also some fun and quirky theme to it. That way they can feel like they’re in an inspiring environment that will make them want to work.
Freedom
Sometimes your company can get stuck in a pattern where you try out the same old selling techniques that barely bring in any business. That’s why you need a fresh vision and a Millennial worker can do just that. Listen to their ideas and give them enough freedom to pursue their own projects. This will make them feel more engaged and become more productive.
Don’t Micromanage
As your Millennial worker is a fresh face on your industry it can be hard not to micromanage them. This can make your employee feel insecure and unlikely to share their ideas with you. Instead, give them the freedom needed to implement their creative plans, learn their own processes, and even make their own mistakes from time to time.
