7 THINGS TO AVOID AFTER RHINOPLASTY

Healthy

9 Sep

Once you’ve undergone Rhinoplasty Toronto, then you should take every precaution possible to make sure that you get the best results. When going through this, it is better to know what to expect and what to avoid. Here are 7 things to avoid after getting your nose job done.

You might feel very little pain after the rhinoplasty surgery and in such situations, most patients try to take care of the household and get back to their schedule sooner than they should. You must adhere very strictly to the restrictions placed after the surgery. Following are the instructions that would make the recovery process smoother.

  1. Activities to avoid:
Avoid bending over, cardio, heavy lifting, swimming or any other activity which might raise your blood pressure. If there is an increase in the blood flow to your face, then it might cause unwanted bleeding which would lead to an increase in facial swelling. This could prolong the recovery period. It may also put your incisions at risk.
  2. Avoid the Sun:
Apart from UV rays darkening the scars permanently, the tissues which are inflamed could burn and create hyperpigmentation when exposed. During the first few weeks of recovery make sure that you cover up with a brimmed hat and apply sunblock, to protect your nose.
  3. Say no to glasses:
You are prohibited from wearing regular eyeglasses and sunglasses for the first month after the surgery. Wearing glasses puts pressure on the bridge of your nose, which could cause indentations or even potential damage. For a month after the surgery opt for contact lens and other forms of shade like a hat when outside.
  4. Avoid touching your nose:
Whenever we get injured, it is normal to want to touch it. After the procedure, the tip of your nose may feel a bit numb and you might be tempted to touch it, but you shouldn’t give in to this temptation. Avoid any area where people might be moving unpredictably, as it increases the risk of someone touching your nose. For the first few weeks after the procedure, it is advised to avoid wearing pullover clothes.
  5. Don’t lie down on your back:
If you fall asleep on your back, then gravity would increase the swelling and pressure, making it more uncomfortable than it was before. Elevating the top of your mattress to an angle of around 35 degrees is helpful. Use firm cushions or airline pillows for additional support.
  6. Avoid smoking and drinking:
While you are on your pain medication, it is advised to avoid alcohol as it can have a blood-thinning effect which might make you more prone to bleeding.
  7. Don’t assume the results too soon:
It takes about a year to see the complete results. Most of the swelling disappears within the first few months and it may give the impression of being done. However, the residual swelling in the delicate tip and nasal soft tissues takes several months to heal.
