10 Guaranteed Ways to Keep you Motivated as a Homeschooling Mum

Lifestyle

23 Aug

When you are a homeschooling mum, your life may seem crazy sometimes. There is no single mum who has never felt confused, discouraged or lost at some point. Dealing with laundry, cooking, and being a homeschooler can blow you up.

It’s not kids alone who lose motivation. You can feel the same as a parent. That doesn’t have to be a problem anymore. The tips below will help you stay motivated as you homeschool your children.

1. Create a plan

Planning doesn’t mean that you should create a daily list of activities. It involves setting the goals you would love your kid to achieve from homeschooling.

Put all the details about your home school and organize how you would like to accomplish each goal. Organize materials you need to achieve each goal. Planning helps you stay focused and motivated to achieve your goal.

2. Use materials you love

Do you enjoy using the materials you have? Annoying materials can make you lose interest in homeschooling. Elements depend on the curriculum you choose.

Make sure that you use attractive colorful booklets, chats, pens, and toys that will impress both you and the learner.

Your choice of materials goes hand in hand with your routine. You don’t have to follow a specific routine. So long as it works for you and your kids, it’s okay. You might choose to learn certain hours per day whether it’s morning or afternoon hours.

3. Make your kids interested

It can be discouraging to teach a child who isn’t interested in what you are teaching. It may make you lack the motivation to do it. You know your kids better and what they love.

When you see your child smile every moment you start the lessons, you can’t wait to do it again and again.

Make the lessons enjoyable by giving your children a chance to learn by themselves. This means that your curriculum should have materials that your children can explore alone.

4. Recharge

Whether you are a full time stay at home mum or not, you could get exhausted doing all the stuff continuously. Monotony could result to lack motivation. Try to seek a helping hand sometimes by hiring a nanny even for a day or two.

Recharge by going out to shop without your children around you. Go out with your husband and refresh once in a while.

Besides that, you could as well go and enjoy the fun with your kids. Whatever works for is best so long as it helps you recharge.

5. Connect with other homeschoolers

If you are looking for motivation, you will be amazed by this idea. There are many places you can get fellow homeschoolers and connect.

It can be a neighborhood where you live or online. Connecting online seems to be one of the easiest ways.

Social media is an excellent tool for finding homeschooling groups where you can meet other mums. Through connecting, you will gain from sharing ideas on how to improve your home learning. Connecting also allows you to vent on matters affecting you. You end up being motivated.

6. Be flexible

Strict schedules are okay. However, monotony may not be your thing sometimes. To stay motivated, you should be flexible.

Take as little or as much time as you like to homeschool. Be flexible based on the time you have, how you feel, and how your kids feel as well. Start your lessons in the morning or the afternoon.

Changing according to your needs makes things easy, which is excellent for both parties.

7. Remember breaks

The only way to keep refreshed is by taking regular breaks. Start with your homeschooling timetables. Incorporate breaks in between the lessons to keep your child attentive.

During those breaks, you could have a snack or play around. Besides that, you need breaks in between the weeks. You could have breaks on certain days like Fridays, Wednesdays, or Mondays.

If you have any holidays, remember to take a break and have fun. At the end of the breaks, you will realize that you have new energy to stay focused.

8. Reorganize your learning area

Did you know that a beautiful looking learning area keeps you motivated? You can’t wait to get there with your child and commence your homeschooling lessons.

Ensure that you have enough space and comfortable tables and seats. Organize the area so that both of you have enough space to keep other learning materials. Try to keep everything in order.

Your learning space should also be a place where you can’t be easily distracted by external factors.

9. Try to save your time always

As mentioned earlier, being a mum can be overwhelming. You deal with so many things. If you are a perfectionist like most mums, you may end up taking too much time doing one task.

Whether it’s cooking, laundry, or shopping, you need to save time. Schoolwork will consume a big chunk of your time. You, therefore, need to save time that you do other tasks.

You could save time by cooking and freezing meals that you can use during the week. Make use of the weekends to do the cooking.

You can then thaw the food during the week and save that time. Hire cleaning services once a week to save time you would have spent cleaning.

10.Take care of yourself

An emotionally drained mum or physically unfit tend to lack motivation. You need to be careful about your well being. Eat healthy food, exercise, and never skip meals.

Homeschooling is an exciting activity. It helps you spend your time with your loved ones as you teach them. Many mums have made it despite their busy schedules. Some are career women but still managed to homeschool their kids. The most important thing is to plan, use materials that interest both the learner and you. Try to save time by doing major chores during the week and organize your learning space.
