You never want to be that person – the one who buys the same, or a similar gift, each year. It’s thoughtless, predictable, and can get a bit boring in the end. If you’re completely stuck for what to buy someone, then, of course, it’s a safe bet to stick to what you know and the presents that you can guarantee the other person will like.
If however, you want to switch things up and get them a gift they can genuinely get excited about, then you’ve come to the right place. Choose a gift that communicates the care and thought that went into picking it out and show them how much they mean to you.
Clothing
Yes, choosing clothing for someone else can be tricky unless you categorically understand their style and what they like and don’t like. With this said, however, there are a few items that most of the population will appreciate as being a lovely gift. Items like luxury underwear and wonderfully snuggly dressing gowns fall into this category. Below is a list of other similar items that might very well tempt you:
- Balls of 100% Merino wool yarn. Okay – this isn’t an item of clothing, however it could be perfect for the person who loves knitting and creating garments.
- A cashmere sweater or cardigan bought from an ethical and a sustainable source such as State Cashmere.
- Rainboots – specifically robust and high-quality ones. These will suit those who love walking and exploring in all weather. They can last a lifetime, and would also be a thoughtful gift for a keen gardener.
Charity Gifts
Resist the impulse to buy for the sake of buying. If you’re stumped for what to purchase for the person who seems to have everything, then give to those less fortunate. Donate money on someone else’s behalf to charities that mean the most to them. If you’re unsure as to which they favor, then consider splitting the amount you’re willing to spend between two or three non-profit organizations.
Short Massage Course
Sure, cooking classes are fun and experimental, but they are a little been there done that nowadays. What are yet to gain serious traction and popularity (because they’re lesser heard and thought of) are massage courses. Of course, the suggestion isn’t to book someone in to receive weekly training over the course of two months, but instead a weekend or even a day course. You can even learn online if you’re not too sure of the recipient’s schedule.
A Tree
Give them something they can nurture and theoretically keep with them for life. Small tree saplings can be given to commemorate the likes of the passing of a loved one, as a moving in gift, to celebrate a birth, a marriage, and to pretty much memorialize any large event milestone. This is a gift that will keep on giving, too, as the tree will grow over time and last for longer than a lifetime.
