6 new hobbies to try when you’re feeling bored

Lifestyle

27 Jul

Sometimes new hobbies aren’t just carried by the wind for us to pick up and have a go at. More often than not, we actively have to look for the things we enjoy. So why not test one of the following hobbies? You may very well find an activity that you never thought would appeal to you.

  • Baking

Whether it’s cookies, cakes or pie – baking is fun. Admittedly, it’s more fun when your baking turns out the way you envisioned, but even the failed attempts trigger sparks of excitement, right? Baking often takes time, and it’s therefore advised to not rush the process in between meetings or right before dinner. Instead, reserve a Sunday morning for your baking and get creative. Choose your recipes, turn on some music and tie your apron. A simple apple pie? A pavlova perhaps? Why not have a go at sourdough bread? It’s all the rage right now.

  • Homebrewing

The fact that homebrewing is a thing already proves there’s a fun factor somewhere. People don’t generally go above and beyond to create something at home that’s also easily bought or even shipped to the front door. Then why try homebrewing? As with baking, homemade stuff just tastes better. Okay, that’s probably not the case when you attempt to brew your own beer using a tiny set-up in the back of your garden shed, but the process is fun!

  • Gardening

Gardening is probably not your first choice when searching for a new hobby, but consider the following. Gardening is basically adopting plants, making sure they’re safe and comfortable, creating an environment for them to flourish – upon which you receive great things in return. Plants just need water, some daylight and occasional love. Just like kids, but less noisy. So get the green juices flowing and save a spot in your garden for some new friends. Who knows, you may even grow some vegetables along the way.

  • Arts and crafts

Nothing beats some good old arts and crafts. Old-fashioned? Maybe, but that’s not stopping you from creating crocheted potholders, embroidered bookmarks or bedazzled tea lights. Naturally, that’s not all arts and crafts entails. In line with a more sustainable lifestyle, arts and crafts can be the ideal addition to your skillset as it poses an alternative to the habit of disposing and buying new. Take sewing your own clothing or refurbishing worn pieces; a durable approach to fashion. Or try woodwork and design your own furniture. Arts and crafts is not just fun, it can also save you money and bring peace of mind.

  • Yoga

Speaking about peace of mind: try yoga! Relaxing yet challenging. Calm yet intensive. The perfect combination of bodily awareness and spiritual tranquillity. More and more people have embraced yoga as their go-to hobby and not without reason. Yoga deals with breathing techniques, muscle enhancement, flexibility and stamina – all contributing to a healthy body and mind. With thousands of home yoga workouts online, there’s options in abundance.

  • Gaming

If you’ve not yet been acquainted with the joy of gaming, perhaps now’s the time. With games becoming more and more advanced, gaming enthusiasts can indulge themselves in online games of all sorts. Moreover, gaming can positively stimulate brain activity and contribute to a variety of neurological benefits. Plus, it’s fun. Find a game that speaks to your interests and challenge yourself to keep improving, level-up and become a pro.

Found your new hobby?

It can be extremely rewarding to step outside your comfort zone and explore new activities. So take inspiration from the above examples and find out whether they’re hobbies you’d like to try.
