The 00s was the final stretch of childhood for many millennials today. Perhaps you were a teen, maybe a young adult – whatever you were, the 00s definitely left their mark. The 00s were the time when fashion was seemingly at its weirdest, music at its best (and worst) and of course when we all had a bit more fun.
That’s why we all miss the 00s in one way or another. Perhaps you miss the boy bands that dominating the scene, or when Destiny’s Child “Survivor” was rocking on the radio. Either way, we bet that these key statements of the 00s are something that you miss as we head into the 2020s.
The Golden Era of Disney Channel and Nickelodeon
For those of you who were kids or teenagers during the 00s, there was nothing better than the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon, because the shows that aired during that time were incredible. From Hannah Montana to That’s So Raven, there was SpongeBob, and Fairly Odd Parents, The Powerpuff Girls, Rugrats, Looney Toons and so much more!
We don’t mean to be biased, but have kids’ shows ever been the same?
Sex and the City
On the other end of the spectrum was Sex and the City, a true landmark of the show that showed women over 30 as fabulous, single, and working professionals. They had adventures, and trysts, and were the pinnacle of fashion at the time. If there is any show that defined the 00s, it was Sex and the City.
Britney Spears
Britney-mania spread around the world. She was the icon. Her style was copied, her music was immensely popular, and the entire world adored her. We will always have …Baby One More Time and Toxic to jam out to.
…and 00s Music in General
00s music hit the spot. It was cheesy, it was melodic, and it is so much fun to dance to whenever you go to a throwback party.
The Fashion
The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and then the 00s were expressionism at their finest, with each decade becoming bolder and more experimental as they went on. Though today’s fashion scene is “throwback to any era you want,” the 00s still had an iconic look to them. Some big trends from the time that have definitely been redefined and remade into today include staples like the casual blazer or slim-fitting jeans (which never really went out of style since the 00s). You can pick up your own 00s gear and start rocking these top 00s trends once again:
Statement Hair Clips
Statement hair clips have just recently come back into fashion thanks to the influencer culture over on Instagram. Since then stores all around the world have started to provide their customers with ultra-cool, ultra-big hair clips.
Tinted Sunglasses
Tinted sunglasses were a key 2000s fashion trend that is still very cool today. Pick up yours to rock a retro look that is perfect for Coachella or any music festival that has peaked your fancy.
Toggle Coats
Toggle coats or duffle coats might not have been invented in the 00s, but they were brought back into fashion back then. These duffle coats bring a touch of sophistication and something different to the zipper wielding, button wearing jackets of the time.
Biker Style
Several styles made it onto the main stage in the 00s, and biker style was one of them. Leather and denim were worn in abundance, and are still to this day an epic combination.
Skate Fashion
Skate fashion is a trend that was popular with everyone going through school in the 00s, whether or not they actually knew how to ride a skateboard!
Shiny Bubble Jackets
Another great piece that should be brought back (puffer jacket’s already are, after all!) is the bubble jacket. Like the puffer jacket, the bubble jacket is big, bulky, and incredibly warm. Unlike the puffer jacket, it came in incredibly vivid colours and had a unique look to it that will surely help you stand out.
The 00s were a great time, so let’s try to bring back some of those long-lost hits.
