Tips To Help You Purchase A New Laptop

Technology

17 Oct

Modern desktop and laptop technology develops at an incredible pace, and while you could easily drive a car that’s more than 10 years old, trying to use a 10-year-old laptop can be quite a difficult task, especially if it’s operating system is out of date and it’s no longer feasible to keep upgrading the hardware.

Eventually you’ll have to ditch the old notebook and begin looking for something new. And it doesn’t take very long to be completely overwhelmed with the many dozens of brands out there, each offering a range of their own laptops. Fortunately, this process can be made a little bit easier if you know what to keep an eye out for while you’re shopping.

Always Choose An SSD

An SSD, which stands for Solid State Drive, is a new(ish) kind of storage that has become something of a requirement in more recent hardware. While a traditional hard drive definitely still has its places in the computing world, they’re not nearly as common in today’s laptops – although a keen buyer will want to ensure that they make double sure before making a purchase. An SSD not only provides significantly better booting speeds, faster programs, and so much more, but they are typically more robust than a hard drive thanks to the fact that there are no moving parts.

The More RAM, The Better

Not everyone is able to afford a lot of RAM right as they make a purchase, but if it’s something that you can afford to do, it’s definitely worth considering. This is known as “future proofing” and is all about buying the necessary hardware upfront so that you won’t have to worry about upgrading down the line, and your laptop will keep up to date even as software continues to become more complex and require more resources. It’s also become quite common in recent years for laptops to have their RAM soldered right in, so it’s a good idea to look for laptops where you can upgrade the RAM as needed.

Lots Of Ports

A lot of modern laptop makers have begun to turn away from offering a large selection of different ports, and this might mean having to eventually purchase a USB hub or other expensive and unnecessary gadget to power to connect to other devices that you own. This can easily be avoided by looking at laptops that provide all the ports that you could need. These can include USB-A as well as USB-C; card readers, or even just an HDMI so that you can connect the laptop up to the TV to play games, watch movies, or explore the latest online casino welcome bonus for your next round of slots.

Replaceable Battery

One of the first components to go on a laptop is its battery, and lots of modern laptops have their batteries directly integrated, making it impossible to change. Always opt for a laptop that has a battery that’s not only replaceable, but one that makes it extremely easy to replace when needed.
