Experience History, Religion, and Art in Spain

Traveling

26 Jul

Spain can be one of the most culturally rewarding places to be in Europe. While it is typically beaches and the sun which draw in the crowds, the locals often find more to enjoy in the country’s rich history and thriving arts scenes. If you’re looking for a location that is filled with interesting art and history, then these are the places in Spain to head for.

The cultural life in Spain can’t be experienced all at once though, to really see what it has to offer you’ll likely have to get some Spanish property. Many people have been won over by the arts that they’ve experienced and decided to get some Spanish property to become a permanent part of this scene. Spanish property often goes fast in these cultural hotspots, with these events and museums on offer it is easy to see why.

Salamanca’s History Tours

Salamanca is an area of Spain that bears the marks of the country’s past. A lot of Spain’s historical culture is dominated by the Civil War, but tours through Salamanca find a nice balance. With some of Spain’s pre-Franco history located here, it is a different kind of attraction.

Going through the region, you’ll be able to visit the Convent of San Esteban. A cathedral that tops the skyline. Surrounding the town are numerous historical villages and towns, each with its own tale of Spain’s past. Even accessible from the region is the Monastery of the Incarnation and the Church and Convent of St Teresa. Quite a mouthful, but they’re some of the most stunning religious buildings in Europe.

If that wasn’t quite enough, Phillip’s II former home of El Escorial is also in the area. the sprawling palace is the equal of the grandiose estates you’d normally associate with France.

The Dali Triangle

Not content with just one town of significance to the surrealist Salvador Dali, this area of Spain claims three. Cadaques, Figueres, and Pubol form a triangle on the map with each laying claim to historical significance for the painter.

Travelling to all three will allow you to take in the Dali Theatre Museum, a bizarre museum that lives up to the work of its subject. The cities also feature his home where he created the bulk of his best-loved work and a medieval castle. Another home that he bought and modified for his wife, quite the present.

Each of these places is a surreal experience, in keeping with the work of the famous artist.

The Semana Santa Festival

With Spain is home to plenty of modern music and arts festivals, if you really want to see real Spanish culture then you have to visit some of the country’s traditional celebrations.

The Semana Santa is a countrywide celebration of the Spanish Holy Week that is carried out in most cities. However, the really special celebrations are in Seville and Malaga. These events feature parades, traditional customers, and elaborate floats of various religious figures. It is an experience like no other. There is a rich culture in Spain if you know where to look.
