Traveling is a wonderful experience, and more young people are making time to travel as much of the world as possible before settling into full-time employment. The world is very much our oyster when it comes to seeing foreign countries and new cultures so much different from their own. Yet what happens to those people who struggle to travel due to health issues, who are starting to feel the effects of too many long-haul flights or bumpy, uncomfortable train journeys?
Travel doesn’t have to cause immense amounts of pain, and although certain flights, such as those 20-something hour flights from the US to Australia that will always be hard to deal with, there are ways to sedate any pain you may feel before, during or after such journeys. Here are the secrets to painless travel.
Get Checked Out Beforehand
Before leaving your home country, always be sure to check in with your doctor, especially if you require medication. Depending on where you’re traveling to, certain medication may be difficult to get a hold of, isn’t permitted, or could be very expensive. Therefore, be prepared and ask your doctor to prescribe any medication in bulk, so that you can take it with you.
Research Your Destinations
Know where you’re going and the area surrounding where you’re staying. For instance, if you’re hoping to stay in a remote village, but the travel from the airport to that village is long and rural, then you may want to ensure your body is ready for such a journey. Knowing before you leave means you can pack comfortable clothes and even a travel pillow or blanket, allowing you to get better sleep.

Many countries have their own different remedies for more minor illnesses, such as headaches, migraines or even hangovers. Remember, when you’re traveling, you’re always able to treat yourself to more clothing, and clothes that are made for certain climates. Be sure to swap one item in for one item out, though; you don’t want too much or too less. Also note that toiletries can be bought in most places, so do not hoard before leaving home.
Rest
Once you’ve made a huge trip, be sure to allow your body to relax and unwind. While you may want to see the sights, it’s always best to spend a couple of hours allowing your body to repair itself. This doesn’t mean taking a nap, especially if you need to get accustomed to a new time zone, but this does mean sitting down in a comfy chair or leisurely walking the town.
