Venice is a destination which every traveler should tick off their bucket list. If you’d love to make the most of a whirlwind trip to Venice, continue reading in order to discover a handy guide to exploring Venice. One of the most beautiful cities in Italy.

Travel to Venice: A Handy Guide

Visit the Campanile di San Marco for a bird’s eye view of Venice:

The Campanile di San Marco is a prominent bell tower which offers unbeatable views of Venice. Thankfully there’s an elevator which will take you right to the top of the historic bell tower. The best time to visit the Campanile di San Marco is first thing in the morning when the queues are the shortest.

Tour the Doges’ Palace:

The Doges’ Palace is one of the most visited sites in Venice and once served as the official seat of the government. Today the palace which is a Gothic masterpiece, serves as a museum which is well worth visiting. Especially if you enjoy touring ornate historic buildings. As a bonus the Doges’ Palace also offers stunning views of Venice.

Take a scenic gondola ride before 7pm:

It’s well worth taking a scenic gondola ride around Venice’s network of canals. Just be sure to take a gondola ride before 7pm as the price to hire a gondola after 7pm increases by 20 euros. Also keep in mind that singing gondoliers cost extra. So if you’re looking to wow your romantic partner make sure to factor this extra fee into your trip budget.

Use inexpensive ferries in order to get around Venice:

One of the easiest ways to get around Venice is to take advantage of Venice’s affordably priced ferries.

Consider booking a hotel which is located close to a water taxi spot:

It’s well worth booking a hotel which is located next to a water taxi spot. Where you’ll be able to board water taxis which will take you to all of Venice’s hot spots such as St. Mark’s Square and Saint Mark’s Basilica. Both of which can be reached by water taxi.

Use a luggage storage service:

If you arrive in Venice hours before your hotel’s check in time or have an early check out time before your flight home, it’s a wise idea to use a luggage storage service. So that you’ll be able to explore Venice’s canals and museums without having to lug your heavy cumbersome luggage around.

Make sure to visit some of Venice’s outer islands:

If you want to escape Venice’s tourist bubble it’s well worth taking day trips to visit some of Venice’s outer islands. As an example, you may want to take a quick ferry to the island of Murano. Where you’ll be able to purchase hand blown glass vases and jewellery. Alternatively if you enjoy eating fresh seafood it’s well worth taking a trip to the island of Burano, which is known for its world class seafood restaurants. If you’re interested in getting to sunbathe on a picturesque beach also plan a day trip to the island of Lido. Which happens to be one of Venice’s most underrated tourist destinations.

So if you’ve never visited Venice, it’s well worth setting yourself a goal of visiting Venice during the next 12 months. As Venice is one of the world’s most unique destinations and is truly a sight to behold.
