The life of a high-class call girl has always fascinated people. The sex, the glamour, the money on one side; the hardship, the unromantic reality, the thin line between legitimacy and illegality on the other. This topic holds many key points of a great story line: love, passion, betrayal, crime, success & money and many more. Over the decades, many movies revolving around the lives of escorts have been made. Here are three which document the sensual side of movie history.
“Escort Girl” from 1941
Just looking at the original poster of this classic movie by David Halperin will make you want to see it. “Beware! The cost of a little fun?” reads the subtitle of this great film. The story line has everything you could wish for! Intrigue, romance, humour, drama, and a pinch of violence.
The former escort girl Ruth – played by Betty Compson – owns an escort agency and part of a café where her ladies and call boys meet their dates. Striptease, champagne and – for the year 1941 – a very free display of “a little fun” play the key role in this establishment. Her daughter June (Margaret Marquis) knows nothing of her mother’s true source of income, believing that Ruth works in a real estate business. June’s fiancé Drake Hamilton takes a job as an assistant DA in Los Angeles. He gets involved in the case which is destined to shut down the illegal escort service of Ruth … and so the story evolves into a captivating bundle of intrigues, betrayal, death and – in the end – love that prevails!
All in all, the movie “Escort Girl” is truly fun to watch!
“Half Moon Street” – a 1,3-million-dollar Block buster
If top actors like Sigourney Weaver and Michael Caine play the leading rolls in a movie, it is bound to be a success. The erotic thriller “Half Moon Street” from 1986 tells the story of Dr Lauren Slaughter: a highly intelligent, beautiful, and underpaid professor on the Anglo-Arabic Institute in London. To boost up her income, she decides to lead a double life: acclaimed professor during the day and VIP escort lady during the night. She takes a job in one of the city’s most exquisite agencies and over time falls in love with one of her top clients: the politician Lord Bulbeck (played by Michael Caine). As expected, things get complicated. Not only on an emotional level between the two main characters! The luxury apartment on Half Moon Street, where Slaughter and Bulbeck meet, belongs to an Arabic friend of the escort. As the story unfolds it turns out that Laureen was nothing more than a pawn in a game, played by ruthless criminals. Once in the apartment, an assassin shows up with the intent to kill the politician.
Here is one romantic Hollywood thriller with anything but a happy ending. The story line is great, captivating and keeps the viewers on their toes. From an acting point of view, not only Weaver and Caine, but the entire cast are amazing. And although the end is kind of predictable, the escort movie “Half Moon Street” is worth an evening in front of the TV!
“The Escort” from 2015 …
… makes it even easier to fall in love with Lyndsy Fonseca. This very talented and extremely good-looking actress was the ideal choice for the main character “Natalie”. Fonseca plays a high-class escort with a Stanford University degree, who feels very insecure – especially concerning the unfamiliar men she needs to deal with every night.
The other main character in the movie “The Escort” is a young journalist from Los Angeles. Mitch Cooper (played by Michael Doneger) is 27 years old, chronically out of cash, single and suffers from a very specific addiction: having sex with strangers he meets via a mobile app.
When Natalie and Mitch meet for the first time, the encounter turns into a fast-paced love story with many twists and turns! Mitch is fascinated by Natalie and the life she lives. She agrees to let him follow her around so that he can write an exclusive exposé for the magazine he’s working for. In return, Natalie uses Mitch as her on-call bodyguard. A role he is unaware of in the beginning of this newly founded relationship. And knowing the kind of people she sometimes needs to deal with during her nightly working hours, Mitch unwillingly bites more off than he can chew.
What starts out as a wired business relation turns into much, much more …
A film which might not go down in movie history as the best escort movie ever made, but still one you should not miss out!
